at the Virginia Holocaust Museum 2000 E. The Cantata Chorus, Jeffrey Ward, Artistic Director, will conduct auditions on June 4 th and June 11 th at Trinity Episcopal Church (500 Court Street, Portsmouth, Virginia 23704). All voice parts are currently being considered. On June 4 th , auditions will be held from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.; on June 11 th , from 10 a.m. until noon.
Rehearsals are held at Trinity Episcopal Church on Monday nights - September through April - from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Fall and spring concerts are performed each year.
The first concert of the 2005/2006 season will be in November with the performance of the Liebeslieder Waltzes by Johannes Brahms, along with pieces by Schubert. Each December, the Chorus performs Part I of Handel's Messiah at Trinity, in conjunction with the Olde Towne Holiday Music Festival. The spring concert in April of 2006 will be presented at Christ & St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Norfolk, with an all Mozart program.
The Cantata Chorus is a fully auditioned community chorus which specializes in the performance of the great choral masterworks. It has been performing in Hampton Roads since its founding by Grover J. Oberle in 1959.

Bay Youth Orchestras of Virginia is celebrating over 30 years of serving the Hampton Roads community by teaching and training over 250 talented musicians each year. Four orchestras rehearse Monday evenings during the regular school year in Norfolk, producing four different concert programs of orchestral music for the communities in Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Chesapeake each season. Participating students come from all over Hampton Roads including Norfolk, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, the Peninsula and North Carolina. Virginia Chorale Announces Auditions for Professional Paid Positions
Virginia Chorale, Robert Shoup - Music Director, announces auditions for professional choristers. Singers in Virginia's only fully professional choral ensemble who travel from outside the local regional area receive compensation for all rehearsals and performances plus travel and per diem.
The critically acclaimed Virginia Chorale performs four to five subscription concerts each season with clustered weekend rehearsals, and has a strong history of high profile projects and recordings. Recent events have included collaborations with Garrison Keillor, Mark Morris Dance Group and the Virginia Symphony, and all seasons feature a cappella repertoire for which the Chorale is recognized. The Chorale celebrates its 22nd season in 2005-06.

Aurora: For the Love of God, Music of the Middle Ages
Jay Taylor, tenor, and Elisa Dickon, harpist. Medieval vocal and instrumental music presented in the Medieval Gallery of the Chrysler Museum of Art. During the 7th century, music was very simple and based on devotional chant. By the end of the mid-15th century, it had become very sophisticated, with complex interplay between instruments and voices. Despite all of the changes throughout the period, people believed that music was an integral part of the cosmos reflecting the love of God.

George Corbett of the Virginia Symphony will lead a Breathing and Posture Workshop, exploring the balance, breath management, posture and body awareness that are essential to healthy singing. This workshop will explore how the breath plays the body and affects overall performance. It is great for musicians of all levels, even for general folks that want to find other ways to be present in their bodies. Materials will be available for use during the class and for purchase as well. The minimum class size is 11 and maximum is 20. The price is $20. Reservations on a first come-first served basis, so please reply as soon as possible. The workshop will be held at Angela Phillips' Yoga Studio in the Hilltop area of Virginia Beach. Please dress comfortably for exercise and bring a beach towel or a yoga mat if you have one.

Schola Cantorum's Fourth Annual Summer Sing:
Faurés Requiem and Cantique de Jean Racine& Workshop

Choristers of all levels of experience and ability are invited to show up to sing through this beloved work. The Schola Cantorum Summer Sing is similar to a "sing-a-long" and enjoys the relaxed character of an informal read-through rather than a carefully rehearsed, polished performance. It will be led by Schola Cantorum's director Dr. Lee Teply and accompanied by members of the Virginia Symphony. The Summer Sing Workshop will feature a renewed emphasis on singer sight-reading skills, French pronunciation and experiencing rhythm in singing. Registration for the Summer Sing Workshop begins at 12:00 pm with a fee of $20. The three one-hour classes take place from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, with breaks between classes. Agnes Wynn will instruct on vocal technique, Charlene Marchant will provide tips on pronunciation of the French and Latin text, Lee Teply will work with students on sight-singing and Eurhythmics. Registration for the Summer Sing begins at 6 pm with a fee of $10. All materials for the Summer Sing Workshop classes as well as musical scores for the Summer Sing will be provided.
